We were delighted to welcome Emily O’Hare for a visit over the winter. Emily left her job as Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer at London’s The River Cafe (one of our favourite restaurants) in 2014 to participate in the grape harvest in Italy, and has never quite made it back. Emily is a highly respected wine critic based in Siena and is a VIA Italian Wine Ambassador and writes for Decanter and Club Oenologique on Italian wine. She also organises bespoke wine tours of Tuscany and teaches the WSET from beginners Level 1 to the more intensive Level 3. What better way to improve your wine knowledge than attending class in Tuscany with Emily: visit Emily’s website to find out more
Montecalvi Chianti Classico 2019 received 94 points from Emily O’Hare, Decanter Magazine
“GREVE – Very light intensity of colour yet the impact on the nose and palate of this Sangiovese is dramatic: a plot twist that, from sight, one would not expect. The nose is salty, sweetly spiced and faintly herbal, with star anise, peppered tartare and fresh mint, but the palate is really where the drinker can get lost down rabbit holes. The tannins are so resolved that they sit back and do not occupy centre stage as Sangiovese wines so often do; thus the acidity and fruit interplay is flamboyant and theatrical, with a long finish. More acts to follow, it would say. Drinking Window 2021 – 2031.”
