Alta valle della greve 2019

For those of you paying close attention, we have reintroduced this wine into our line-up at Montecalvi. This IGT denomination tracks the valley along the Greve River, from its source on Mount Querciabella, northwards past our front gate, and onwards into the Arno. We produced an AVDG in the past and we decided that it was only right to reintroduce this wine in celebration of our specific terroir. Our new interpretation of the AVDG is a blend of 50:50 Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a long maceration, and spends 48 months in French oak tonneaux before bottling and release.

We thought, however, that the wine deserved a ‘fresh’ label, something that better represented its place. So we asked Sandro Granucci — the renowned local artist who made the ‘Equilibrio Ecologico’ sculpture which is on the terrace at Montecalvi and which became the label for the Chianti Classico Riserva – to see what he could do. Sure enough, he (so we think) got it exactly right – an abstract depiction of the Greve River which mimics its path past Montecalvi.
