We have 325 olive trees at Montecalvi, perched high above the Le Terrazze vineyard. We have three traditional Tuscan varieties: Correggiolo, Frantoio and Moraiolo.

  • Correggiolo is a fairly vigorous cultivar found throughout central Tuscany. It tends to ripen gradually and the olives are slightly asymmetrical. Classic flavours of fresh artichoke and a good level of peppery spice.
  • Frantoio is unusual in that it grows relatively quickly and is self-pollinating (like grapevines). It is best when harvested while still green and only blushing violet and has a flavour of rucola, cooked artichoke and green peppercorn.
  • Moraiolo is the most intense of our cultivars and likes to be grown on hilly ground. It features black pepper in abundance along with nutmeg and in the best years a hint of hazelnut.
